This is awesome

As the situation in the Chinese province of Wuhan reaches critical levels, government officials are seeking unorthodox measures to control the spread of the lethal virus. Drones take to the skies over the quarantined area. Among different propositions, the solution of a Canadian-based company Draganfly Inc. (DFLYF, DFLY.CN, 3U8.F) might be key to the success of the whole operation.

Retired Lt. Gen. David Deptula, dean of the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies, has compared current drone capabilities to those of manned aircraft before World War II. The technology, though impressive, is still in its infancy and major innovations are underway. But the drones’ major test arrives today, as the rapid spreading of the coronavirus in China calls for innovative solutions, that often only unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can deliver.

2020-02-11 09:15 ET - News Release

Vancouver, British Columbia, Feb. 11, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Draganfly Inc. (CSE: DFLY) (OTCQB: DFLYF) (FSE: 3U8) (“Draganfly” or the “Company”), an award-winning, industry-leading manufacturer within the commercial Unmanned Aerial Systems (“UAS”), Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (“RPAS”), and unmanned vehicle sectors, today announced it has opened a new U.S. office on North Carolina State University’s (“NC STATE”) Centennial Campus.

Centennial Campus, in the heart of North Carolina’s research capital, is a unique part of NC STATE dedicated to the convergence of industry, research and academia. The campus works with over 70 corporate, government and non-profit partners, in addition to housing over 75 NC State research centers, institutes, laboratories and department units.

Draganfly, through its opening of its U.S. office on Centennial Campus, joins other prestigious industry and government collaborators who see the value in housing operations at NC STATE including Eastman, Merck, LexisNexis, IBM, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

From “bookBot”, a giant robotic book delivery system at the futuristic Hunt Library that can store up to 2 million items and deliver any of them within minutes of an online catalog request, to CASSI (Connected Autonomous Shuttle Supporting Innovation), a Level-4 autonomous “driverless” vehicle that uses cameras, radar, global positioning systems and electronic sensors to transport up to 12 people along its one-mile loop, the pioneering spirit at Centennial Campus can be seen everywhere.

Draganfly, the longest running manufacturer of multi-rotor helicopters in the world, is itself a pioneer and respected leader in the unmanned aerial systems industry. Draganfly has created an impressive portfolio of intellectual property and know-how over 21 years, enabling it to continually solve difficult problems for enterprise, government, and consumer clients around the world.

Draganfly’s innovative technological firsts include being the first company to commercialize a quadcopter, the first to create six and eight bladed drones, and the first to add commercial sensors to drones. In addition to its multi-rotor solutions the company offers ground robots, secure controllers, fixed wing aerial vehicles capable of beyond visual line of sight operations and delivery, and hybrid vertical take off and landing systems well suited for large area data collection and austere environments.

Draganfly’s pioneering achievements are not only commercial. A Draganflyer X-4 ES, the first unmanned aerial helicopter responsible for saving a human life, is on display in the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. This special honor reflects the deep commitment the company has to supporting public safety and emergency response worldwide.

“Expanding our operations to NC State’s Centennial Campus gives us an incredible strategic advantage over our competitors,” said Patrick Imbasciani, Draganfly Chief Operating Officer. “As we scale our secure government and public safety offerings alongside our commercial solutions for agriculture, environment, energy, telecommunications, insurance and other sectors, access to the latest research and development in the application of emerging technologies such as 5G, edge computing, and new composites, shortens our learning curve and accelerates our delivery cycles to market. Incorporating talented student innovators into our operations through internships and co-op, as we programmatically engage leading faculty through research agreements and technology transfer, should be a win-win for Draganfly and NC State University.”

"NC State is excited to welcome Draganfly, Inc. to the campus community. Draganfly's commitment to innovation is well-aligned with the university's mission to "think and do". We look forward to the opportunities that this engagement will bring," said Dennis Kekas, Associate Vice Chancellor - Office of Partnerships and Economic Development.

Draganfly officially opened its U.S. office at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina on February 1, 2020. Situated on NC STATE’s Wolfline bus line yet hidden in plain sight among the collaborative professional community of HQ Raleigh, the location in the Partners I building on Centennial Campus affords equal proximity to the United States Federal Aviation Administration approved test fields and NC STATE’s historic main campus. Draganfly anticipates the space will meet its commercial and operational needs as it grows and scales its business and operations.

Age of Autonomy: Economic opportunities in the new drone industry

US Equity Research - 22 January 2020

In this whitepaper we focus on the global drone market, and specifically the military, industrial and logistics opportunities. We do not focus on the consumer or hobby market. We estimate the military will remain the leading driver of technology and innovation in the next five years, but the emergence of commercial applications (drone delivery) and select industrial applications will foster a broader ecosystem that we believe will eventually drive significant capital allocation and growth. The drone market should continue to attract significant capital and investments, and in this whitepaper we highlight several notable private companies.

The military market remains investable. We estimate the global military drone market is worth $5B, growing MSD. We believe we are in the early innings of a major sea change in the use of unmanned systems across domains and for support purposes, such as logistics. Moreover, the proliferation and advancement of drones is creating a vibrant counter-drone market. We expect the continued pivot from the U.S. DoD toward great power competition will continue to drive significant investments in the military drone market, which should remain a driving force in technology advancement. Undersea and ground-based systems are seeing an incline in growth due to this strategic realignment.

Mr. Cory Baker reports

DRAGANFLY RELEASES NEW PAYLOADS TO INCREASE EFFICIENCY AND DATA COLLECTION QUALITY

Draganfly Inc. has released three new specialized payload offerings, which are intended to expand agricultural research and environmental monitoring using drones.

Draganfly's wholly-owned subsidiary, Draganfly Innovations Inc., has developed these new payload options in collaboration with research experts in agricultural and water resources fields. These new camera packages, which have now been added to Draganfly's existing product line, are intended to increase efficiency and improve the spatial and spectral quality of actionable data collected.

The Corning microHSI hyperspectral sensor is capable of recording up to 155 user-selectable light bands, which allows researchers to narrow their focus to the specific light spectrums they want to target. This sensor is being used across various industries including precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, and oil & gas. Draganfly now offers and supports this sensor package on the Draganflyer Commander UAV platform as well as the DJI M600 Pro.

The first of two dual-sensor packages is the 100MP Phase One Industrial iXM-100 still camera paired with the MicaSense RedEdge-MX multispectral 5-band sensor, which offers simultaneous capture of multispectral and high resolution visual imagery. These two cameras are impressive in their own right, but what makes this payload package even more powerful is the payload control system that allows for geo-referencing and automatic, simultaneous camera shutter and data logging. This dual payload is available now and supported on the DJI M600 Pro platform.

The second of the two dual-sensor packages is the 42MP Sony a7R still camera paired with the MicaSense RedEdge-MX multispectral 5-band sensor. This payload offering, like the above-mentioned dual sensor payload, also offers simultaneous capture of multispectral and high resolution visual imagery, but at a more attractive price point.

"We are excited to offer systems and equipment to researchers and government agencies looking to improve on their current data collection methods. We're confident these payload offerings can add immense value" stated Cory Baker, Production Manager, Draganfly Innovations.

The sensor packages in these new payload offerings have been integrated with the aircraft's autopilot, flight control system, and mission planning software to allow automatic planning, push button flight execution, and data collection driven by the user's resolution and data quality requirements.

These specialized payloads have been developed with agricultural and environmental research organizations in mind. University-led research programs and federal agencies that Draganfly collaborated with include the University of Saskatchewan's Plant Phenotyping and Imaging Research Centre (P2IRC), the University of Saskatchewan's Global Water Futures, and the Government of Canada's Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food.

Excellent write up here
generalaviationnews.com/2020/01/15/the-b...-heard-of-in-drones/

What people want from drones is data, of course, but they also want to know that it is secure,” said Chell. “Our biggest advantage in the North American supply chain, where applicable, is a private autopilot system that ensures data security.”

“As a result of the latest bans on Chinese manufactured drones, going forward I think the U.S. military will only deploy North American manufactured drones,” he continued. “I think in regard to other U.S. government agencies, there will be some patches built to ensure low cost Chinese drones are secure and so there will be some exemptions for Chinese drones for U.S. government and infrastructure work. Those exemptions will revolve around drones that have third-party security attached to them to ensure their data cannot be hacked. I also think that Chinese manufacturers will make strides and offer assurances that on some of their drone systems there will be data security. For mission critical work, however, the default will be to go with a North American manufacturer.”

It is easy to see that this company will be a drone leader in military and defense

Vancouver, British Columbia, Dec. 19, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Draganfly Inc. (CSE: DFLY) (OTC: DFLYF) (FSE: 3U8) (“Draganfly” or the “Company”) subsidiary, Draganfly Innovations, an award-winning, industry-leading manufacturer within the commercial Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (“RPAS”) and the Unmanned Vehicle Systems (“UVS”) space, announced that it has been registered with the Controlled Goods Program of Canada.

“Controlled goods” is a term used to refer to equipment used in Canada’s defense and security industries, including but not limited to military equipment, communications equipment and related pieces of intellectual property. As a result of this registration, Draganfly is authorized to work with and handle ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) controlled goods and technologies. This registration simplifies the regulatory process United States clients face when contracting Draganfly for sensitive projects.

All defense products and components produced at the Draganfly facility are manufactured consistently to meet these requirements.

“Draganfly has been on Canada’s Controlled Goods Program since March 2019. This means that we are authorized to work with and handle ITAR controlled goods and technologies. This ability makes it much easier for US clients doing work for the government and military to contract us on projects.” said Tim Lee, VP of Engineering and the Designated Official for the Controlled Goods Program at Draganfly.

The inclusion of ITAR compliant practices via the Controlled Goods Program is an indicator of Draganfly’s commitment to serving customers with quality and regulatory excellence. This means that the necessary controls are in place to ensure that all controlled data and products are only available to approved personnel. This process assures government and military customers that these materials will not get into the hands of non-authorized persons.
