Check this out, very strong correlation to Gold and the Yen, Recent Gold price rise is because of Yens fall and how the computer trading adjusts, a very good argument

Goldman says short Gold as usual

They talk about fear driving Gold higher and maybe that was a trigger for short covering. The real driver is a new perception that interest rates are not going to rise so the previous bets against Gold were proven wrong.
